Hawai’i Legacy Series: ‘Ōpūkahaʻia

See this original documentary from our Creative Media & Communication Course trainer, Jeff Rogers and filmed in part with the participation of Creative Media & Communication students and staff.

Hawai’i Legacy Series: ‘Ōpūkahaʻia is a story about the lone survivor of a village killed in King Kamehameha’s conquests. Opukahaia swam out to a ship and voyaged for 2 years. Ending up in New England, he became a scholar who’s writings have changed Hawai’i forever. Hear his story from the authors, artists, elders and descendants of Hawaiian leaders who were filmed as they retraced his journey in New England 2 centuries later. His faith and courage inspired 3 Hawaiian natives and 14 New Englanders to come as the first mission team to Hawai’i 200 on this exact date, April 4th, 200 years ago. #opukahaia #hanahou #hawaiilegacy
